News from the President
By Pat Birck,
Board President
I 'd like to highlight just a few of the dedicated CCJ staff members who direct CCJ‟s programs. All of CCJ's programs are carried out by CCJ staff under the overall direction of our Executive Director, Gerry Garvey. Open Door, under the direction of Diane Iverson, continues to feed an increasing number of clients each day that it is open. The annual Feinstein Challenge during March and April raised a veritable mountain of food to feed those in need. We are grateful to all who made this year's drive a success.
During the school year, the Weekend Family Food project provided food to families with children in need under the direction of VISTA volunteer, Julie Meyers. The project is expected to resume at the beginning of the new school year.
Home Repair, under the direction of Sharon Andersen, has completed more projects during the first part of 2011 than in previous years. This work is accomplished with a dedicated group of volunteers and is funded through a variety of grants.
The CCJ Thrift Shop, managed by Debra Bond, continues to grow. With the summer yard sale season upon us, an increased emphasis has been placed on the pickup of leftover items when yard sales end. If you have items to donate, the CCJ Thrift Shop is the place to visit. If you haven't visited recently, we invite you to take a look -- you might be surprised at the progress the thrift shop has made.
Have you attended Chef Bryan's monthly luncheon on the first Friday of each month? It's always good food, and your donations help to support CCJ. In addition, Bryan's activities train workers for eventual employment in the food service industry. It's just one more way that CCJ is impacting the greater Prescott community.
