Arizona Charitable Tax Credit An individual income tax credit is available for contributions that provide assistance to the working poor. Below, you will find a link to a publication to assist taxpayers, a list of self certified charitable organizations, and instructions for an organization to be added to this list. Charitable Tax Credit New Rules You may make up to a $400 contribution to a qualified charitable organization such as the Coalition for Compassion and Justice and receive a $400 credit on your tax liability (limit is $200 for a single taxpayer return). Thanks to the Arizona Credit for Contributions to Organizations that Provide Assistance to the Working Poor law, you may do so if you do the following:
It is much easier now because the complicated rules that were in place in prior years relating to itemized deductions in 1996, etc. are now gone. The new law is retroactive to January 1, 2009 so any and all charitable contributions made in calendar year 2009 are subject to the rules of the new law. Note that if you are able to itemize on your federal return, you can include your contribution as a deduction there also. In addition, note that any contributions made to an organization that provides assistance to the working poor (such as CCJ) at any time throughout the year are eligible for this tax credit. This includes regular monthly donations made during the year. No special forms are necessary to be sent by CCJ to qualify your donations; the statement of giving sent to you in January qualifies your contributions. For further information, check out the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit Law - information on claiming the tax credit and a listing of self certified charitable organizations. For further information, call Iyone Meyer, CCJ Administrative and Finance Managerme at (928) 445-8382. |
