Challenges do work!
People respond generously!
What an amazing community the Prescott area is!

Each year, Open Door receives part of the Million Dollar Challenge money from the Feinstein Foundation in direct response to the financial and food donations collected during March and April, and it is participating in the challenge again this year.

For the past ten years Alan Shawn Feinstein has donated $1 million annually nationwide to help fight hunger. The foundation divides the money proportionally among all agencies that participate in the challenge

During the months of March and April, 2008 when the Feinstein Challenge was in full swing, Open Door collected a total of 18,233 food items to be used in our kitchen for hot meals and to help stock our pantry. Not only did we collect food items, but we also received generous monetary donations to help with the Open Door program. Additionally, Open Door will receive a portion of the food and money contributions in matching dollars from the Feinstein Foundation.

There is a down side to this also… With Open Door distributing close to 100 cans each day for a total of 300 food items each week to clients, this food will all be gone by the end of June. Currently, Open Door has had to restrict pantry visits to one time per week so that we can find ways to restock our pantry. Food donations are desperately needed at Open Door so that we can go back to daily visits to our pantry.

Can we challenge you again?
